The project is finalized to design urban furniture for the area of Venaria along the banks of Ceronda and Stura di Lanzo rivers, included the area adjoining Venaria Royal Palace park.

Cesare Griffa wins the tender. He is in charge of design , realization, measuring and accounting of five “urban devices” that act as furniture and communication booths. Moreover, he co-operate with the institutions involved to promote a series of immaterial actions in the area such as happenings…(built in September 2008)

The project designed six “urban devices”, a sort of complex urban furniture to activate social sharing, in the Park of the River Ceronda in Venaria.

GREEN COMMUNICATION
The project created Corona Verde aim to create spaces that can foster communication, facilitating the sharing of something with those around us and the environment around us. First you have to understand what it means to communicate.Going back in time, its meaning in Latin was “to share with others something that is part of us.” A definition to reference that highlights two very important aspects, rarely found in what we call communication: a focus where you want to share with each other and the need to find something that is ours to be made available.
To facilitate such contact is necessary to create new spaces where appropriate and there is a certain stillness, a silence that encourages a revival of attention to exit the mechanical nature and enter into a dimension where it is possible that real communication occurs. In creating these conditions, the element of “nature” itself has a very important role as a bearer of intrinsic mechanisms of cooperation and relationship: ancestral predecessors of the report has in us all much closer to our daily lives than they imagine .

More or less consciously, in fact, we have borrowed from natural systems (those that allow the operation of a cell to those that regulate food chains, animals or communities, even our neural system) many of the concepts now in vogue, networks to diversity, use and subjecting them power and efficiency for our purposes. The “green” is also an element of relaxation and calm, able to influence and make room in your heart, mind and body of persons. A fact of which we are fully aware before the great spectacles of nature, or when we try a little ‘relaxation outside the city on weekends.

In this sense, Green Crown, the project idea and, in some ways, dreams and future scenario, it is an ideal starting point to create spaces for communication and exchange in the large portion of urban and suburban Turin: a complex and varied, in which a thin wire is still detectable connective (spatial and conceptual) capable of binding the “green areas” in the network. A rich, it almost always neglected in the evolutionary dynamics of the metropolitan area that are more or less dictated by large public and private economic interests, and often projects of regional impact and environmental level. It ‘just take the Turin bypass or highways and roads that branch off from the city to establish a rapid and wild cappannoni and commercial and industrial activities, in those open areas that are close to the urban centers . A process that could adversely affect and nature, and living memory of many places.

SUBURBANITY
The suburbs are yes, on the one hand, place the potential for renewing contact with the natural settings that surround the city, but on the other hand, the same suburbs are the extreme aspect of an isolated and stripped of any identity that abrutimento placesand people, striking at the heart of the bonds that form a community and leading to its disintegration. A very general trend that leads to impersonal and make everything that goes far beyond the urban setting, nestling in the houses and doing any less sense of unity among people. For these reasons, even more direct impact on the area which often falls on the most attention, it is essential to the cultural role of Crown Green, which should create favorable conditions to try and suggest an unusual vision of the reality of the city, allowing see it as part of a larger ecosystem and highlighting links and new criteria to be taken into account.

A challenging task which can only be done by identifying and building a dedicated system capable of transmitting philosophies, benefits and contents of Crown Green.Primary aim of this is that issues and needs related to the preservation and vitality of the green to be accepted by the people and become recognized as common values, a view also gradually being adopted by the ordinary design, public and private interests linked to those who insist on areas. The new vision must also seek to overcome the separation and total lack of communication between built and unbuilt in today many if not all contexts citizens. Such a situation is a consequence of a vision of cultural and economic spaces that are made synonymous with business, economics, policy, social life, while those not constructed of passivity, confusion, abandonment and poverty. A thought that has often translated into reality, leading to ever more confining and insularisation natural systems and creating an isolation that has led to a progressive deterioration of their transforming them into “dark places” where they concentrate and waste material and social degradation.
Building on the involvement of younger age groups, it is necessary to suggest the possibility that other areas do not return to build their social value of meeting places, for comparison, the contact with nature, play and relax from the stress of the urban.Not forget that ecology also means man. For this, a replenishment of its connections include, in the broadest sense, a restoration of the possibility of following such a network for people in a non-impact on natural systems (ie walking and cycling). The success of that network use is related to the ability to make visible, easier and safer paths and circuits.

URBAN DEVICES
These reflections, coupled with the fact that in urban contexts what is called the communication is often very invasive, written and bombardante, led the study and then the realization of some structures that would become their own, through a non-invasive presence and unwritten but discreet and comfortable, quiet items of dialogue and identity, as well as the main vehicle of the message of Green Crown. For this reason, have been deliberately sidelined, those who are commonly identified as elements of communication convenzionalemte Understanding: signs, boards, brochures, etc … that are often made so didactic and in any case it would be better allocated for informative purposes.

An intention to fund shared by the City of Venaria, which was proposed as a “pilot agency” and lead to develop in concert with the Piedmont Region this draft notice in its guidelines for the whole of Crown Green, realizing as the first test concrete structures for the area of its direct jurisdiction. Common matrix of all the project areas is also the separation issue, mentioned in “built” and “natural.” It may be thought of as a membrane which is now completely waterproof and therefore only the function of exclusion and isolation of the two systems. The biology suggests that such a situation is completely unnatural for living organisms, where the membranes are always on the one hand, serves to separate and identify, but on the other to link together the elements supporting and managing mechanisms for mutual exchange . It is therefore intended to make part of this permeable membrane, so that the city can not creep into the city and vice versa, starting a process that could revitalize both different and complementary way.
The system of structures designed poses an interesting piece in this sense, it brings architecture to deal with the natural, keeping each other’s identity, function, development, etc …

A small portion of the “built” goes into “green” with ‘ insularisation intent to let nature (and not vice versa insularisation and choke) in order to open a dialogue with it. An intervention that, due to clarity, not from a artistic intent, nor that of modeling or design your landscape, it is not classified either as “land art” or as “landscape architecture”, while having strong points of contact with both.
Condition of Land Art was a strong contrast with the artificialisation art and places appointed to host it, manifested in the choice of large open spaces where artists, work and spectator were subject to orders, laws and rhythms of nature with which man is called to interact again. Crown Green and architectural design in question are placed in contrast with the approval of the artificial and peri-urban areas, building a similar nature and its harmonious vitality to restore contact between it and the man of the city, and create favorable conditions for relations of community and communication among citizens.

In the specific case of Venaria addition, the large area of the quarry in the process of disposal which is located in the central area affected by the scope Crown Green could be the ideal place to create a “Lunar Park” by dunes dominated by light-coloredSand River. An opportunity to make room for a real intervention of Land Art and modeling of landscape capable of releasing new potential. It would mark a shift from a moment of domination and abuse of man “quarryman” environment, a different attitude when nature once again become an active element in a dialogue that extends in space and time with the man creator and viewer. This would make the current quarry area managed by a unique, charming and unique, while preserving the memory and history. Those aspects that would be a crime clear (as was done for example for the establishments of the SNIA-Viscose) bringing the whole area in a nondescript green area, according to that idea and philosophy to “retraining” is often too superficial, ready to childishly clear what “does not like” and show many already unfortunate reality to a new anonymity and consequent degradation.

Returning to the communication structures of Crown Green, a key point for their development was the consideration of the ‘urban “factor that belongs to both areas to natural and constructed that it should be doing a series of functions-no small serviceimportance to the community. In the urban reality is however in many cases an element of little use, without identity, and sometimes a barrier, which leads to disease not by a national, non-recognition of its role and in many cases, vandalism. From this reflection is the idea that structures specially designed for Crown Green also became the main (if not only, if possible) furnishing system of all areas that fall under the auspices of the project, taking on and expanding the functions and becoming a point of service for all users. An ingredient in most, allowing citizens and visitors to recognize unequivocally a common matrix of the metropolitan and suburban intervention in Turin, giving these areas a clear identity.

Key points for successful operation are the uniqueness, quality and strong ricoscibilità for this were carefully design and choice of materials used, preferring the presence of wood as a living element which forms a natural link between the green and built. The basic framework on which individual installations have been developed and is designed to be easily adaptable and configurable according to the needs of different places, each time providing opportunities for sitting, playing, the sun, dining, meetings and lectures in a group exhibition of artistic or educational materials, organization of small events in the green, etc … Some basic graphics and text, as well as the backlight of written and meetings, helping to identify the structures and provide some landmarks for orientation in area in question and in the context of the project which covers the whole field periubrano Turin.
The areas of Crown Green are also places of crucial importance for the development of projects with schools that can introduce students to the dynamics of their territory and to the characteristics of natural systems. It is therefore essential direct involvement of the National Parks and their experts, environmental education so that they can use those areas for teaching. We believe that the structures designed to provide key points of these training sessions, not forgetting that the opportunities in this respect are not limited to educational sector of natural systems (flowers, plants, animals, geology, etc …) or environmental issues (water, waste , etc. ..), but extend to all topics and connections that we made reference in a more broad and deep ecology. Such an attitude is the key to reconnect the development of contemporary society and the natural world: welding a wound that is deep and at times unbridgeable.
